"The birth of Japanese frames begins in 1905s, Shono, located in Asozu-mura & Asuwa-gun in Fukui. What is now known as Shono-cho, Fukui City, was once a village hidden in the snowy mountains of winter. Gozaemon &Kohachi Masunaga were inspired to created glasses to improve the live of those in Shono. As Fukui is now a stow of skilled craftsmen of many trades, it was the inspiration of glasses by the Masunaga brothers that now continue that legacy, and hold Fukui & Sabae city to this day as the home of production for Japanese frames."
